Sampling Design

Kenya had not yet carried out a full National Forest Inventory when the FRL was prepared. Emission factors therefore came from a pilot inventory of 121 plots across all ten forest classes (ICFRA, KFS 2016; CADEP-SFM, JICA 2017), using stratified sampling.

The very large spread within strata shows the need for a full NFI with permanent plots and more sub-strata: separating montane, bamboo and western rain forests, and mangroves from coastal forests.
