Forest Alerts & Verification
Near-real-time disturbance alerts and how they are verified.
Alert Verification
Alerts from JJ-FAST and NRTFAS are verified on the ground by KFS rangers using a Survey123 application on a smartphone or tablet. Rangers also report incidents such as deforestation and fire found on patrol or reported by residents.
Each field report records: conservancy, county and station; location (automatic); forest type (natural or planted); location characteristics; incident type (logging, fire and so on); information source (ranger, residents and so on); on-site action; photograph; reporter name and signature.
Reports are summarised on a dashboard: total incidents, incidents per county, share by incident type, and a map where each point opens its report.
