Forest Conservation Laws

  • Forest Act Cap 385 (1969): supported the 1968 policy.
  • Forest Act No. 7 of 2005 (effective 2007): provided for managing forests outside public land and for community and private sector participation in forest management.
  • Constitution of Kenya 2010: new structures for natural resource management, stakeholder participation and benefit sharing.
  • Forest Conservation and Management Act, 2016: gives effect to Article 69 of the Constitution on forest resources and provides for the development, conservation and rational, sustainable use of all forest resources.
